Seven Tips for a Less Stressful Move

It's no secret that the process of moving is stressful. The chaos of moving is understandably overwhelming, but it doesn't need to be the nightmare so many of us envision. With the right steps taken, help given, and resources provided, a successful (and less stressful) move can be accomplished. Though there will always be a few bumps in the road, almost every problem faced while moving can be avoided or taken care of in the moment.

To help tackle the stress of moving, we've come up with seven helpful tips that will make your move less stressful and a more enjoyable experience!

1. Accept the Stress!

Let's face it, moving is going to be a little stressful. Accepting the fact that you will most likely have to endure some level of stress while moving can help you get through the minor (or major) set backs that are bound to happen during the process. Keep in mind that stress is apart of moving, but that doesn't mean the process has to be painful. Keep your cool and try to remind yourself that things will work out, no matter how bad the situation may be.

2. Get the Pros Involved

If it's within your budget, hiring a professional moving company to help with your move can be a great way to take some of the stress away on moving day. Handing off the heavy lifting and major tasks to the professionals will allow you more time to focus on the finer details.

3. Stay Organized

Organization is key when it comes to moving. Staying organized ensures a smooth, less stressful experience on moving day. Sort and label your boxes in a way that makes it easier to unpack them later. You could number the boxes, or label them with what room they need to be moved to when brought to the new location. Create a checklist of the most important (and most valuable) items you own. Check and DOUBLE CHECK your inventory, so that nothing gets lost or left behind. Always double check the house one last time before you leave, and keep all important documents together and on hand at all times. All of this might seem a bit excessive, but being organized makes things less stressful and go much faster!

4. Ask for Help!

An extra set of hands is always helpful when moving. Contact friends and family and see if they are available to help. Contacting them three or four weeks in advance will ensure that you have plenty of help on hand. A little incentive always helps too!

5. Take Your Time

Though it may feel like you're in a rush, it is important to take breaks and pace yourself while moving. Don't suffer by overworking yourself or pushing yourself to hard.

6. Don't pack last minute

There will be some things that you have to pack last minute, but you should try to pack up rooms that are used the least and make sure to pack belongings that are not being used in advance to save time. Remember to pack expensive and valuable items safely and separately from your other belongings. The more you pack beforehand, the less packing to do on moving day.

7. Rest Up!

Getting a good nights sleep the night before moving day is super important! It's no doubt that moving day will take a lot out of you, so you want to be well rested and full of energy. Try going to bed early and waking up early so you can start packing, you've got a lot of work ahead of you!
